M81 BDU "Raid Mod" Top

CONDITION: These are constructed from genuine USGI BDU's and most were issued at one point. That adds to the charm a little. They will exhibit very minor flaws where the lower pockets and various patches were removed, and they may exhibit other minor cosmetic flaws from previous issue and usage. We keep the very best of the BDU's we get to turn into these "Raid Mods".

In the late 1990's to early 2000's various units began modifying standard uniform tops to meet their specific mission requirements. As armor and specifically plate carriers became much more prevalent, the lower BDU pockets became useless and added to heat retention. The lack of storage and the ability to add unit and IR Flash patches to identify friendly troops under night vision became much more necessary. The tactical market was still in its infancy, so unit riggers began making the necessary modifications and the resulting products began being known as "Raid Mod" cammies or utilities. Various generations of uniform tops may be used for these modifications and there is no guarantee of what type you may receive as condition is the primary factor in their selection. 

Generally, the modifications take one of several routes. The lower abdomen pockets are removed and sleeve pockets are constructed from them. Loop fields are added to the pockets for patches and often loop fields are added above the breast pockets as well. Other, more in depth, modifications would include angling the breast pockets, although this was generally a later and more involved modification. 

Various generations of uniform tops may be used for these modifications and there is no guarantee of what type you may receive as condition is the primary factor in their selection.
