Great piece of winter gear. I’ve wanted to try one of these for quite some time but never got around to it. Performance wise, it is no different than the US surplus wool beanie, but, as mentioned in the description, the brim helps keep the sun & precipitation out of your eyes/face. Another lesser known pro is that if you have a jacket with an oversized hood, especially a military surplus hood cut for a helmet, the brim provides a little ledge for the hood to rest upon keeping it from blocking your vision. It (the hood) can be cinched down on top of the brim as well ( as opposed to right above your eyes)
